An Evening with The Brodsky Quartet and Brighton Festival Chorus

Saint Bartholomew’s church was a fittingly beautiful backdrop for a wonderful performance from the BQ and BFC. The first choral songs by Parry set things up well in terms of accesible warmth and soul, and the Mahler choral piece was a superb combination of delicacy and power. The BQ’s rendition of Golijov’s ‘Tenebrae’ was their highlight, a romantic piece that was mournful and moving. Eric Whitacre’s ‘Sleep’ was a short but incredibly stirring song and was the highlight for the BFC. The string quartet were a little drowned out when joined by the chorus for the final piece by Tarik O’Regan, but the choral soloists were fantastic and the collaboration was a suitably soaring way to end a brilliant night.
