Comedy: Chris Ramsay – Offermation
Nominated for the Edinburgh Fosters Award last year, this show is catapulting Chris Ramsay into the spotlight
Congrats on your nomination for the Edinburgh Award last year. Must be a fab show. What’s your favourite bit of it?
“Thanks very much! Apparently it’s a great show yes, but that’s not for me to say really. I just judge it by the way the crowds are reacting to it, I love performing it. My favourite aspect of the show is the letters that I read out during it. They are round-robin letters from family members I have never met; they form the back bone of the show and really have to be read to be believed.”
Have you gathered more unsolicited information during your tour?
“God, yes. My entire life is essentially collecting Offermation and telling other people about it. If you’re after a hard-hitting political comedian, don’t come to my show.”
Does any additional information make its way into the show at all?
“I do about 30 minutes at the top of just chatting to the crowd and talking about what I’ve been up to so that bit will probably be full of more Offermation than the actual hour show after the interval. It depends how up for it they are; it’ll be funny though.”
What’s your favourite bit of information to impart to others?
“I like telling people I have a Nando’s Black Card. People don’t like hearing it though.”
Do cab drivers feature in your show much?
“I have one interaction in particular with a cab driver which may feature in my autumn tour; involving a death on the railway lines and his utter, utter delight about it – I know…”
What do you want to do next?
“After this interview? Or in my career? Well, I just want to keep touring, keep writing new shows and keep at it really, the sky is the limit – got some exciting stuff on the horizon. Now I’m off to Nando’s, I’ve got a black card.”
What’s the best thing you’ve ever read about yourself?
“Someone on Twitter once claimed they kind of knew me because my dad had built their grandfather’s shed. They hash-tagged the tweet #topcraftsman – that was hilarious.”
If people were to bring presents of appreciation to your show, what would be the most appropriate?
“Peanut Butter KitKat Chunkies at the moment, I’m going to sicken myself with them soon.”
