Astrid Williamson

Shetland born, Brighton-based songwriter Astrid Williamson returned to the Latest Musicbar for a stripped down set, promoting her fifth and finest solo album, Pulse. Accompanied by a quiet, inventive guitarist, she successfully recreated the album’s subtle electronic textures with hypnotic piano and reverb heavy vocals. The spikiness of Williamson’s Goya Dress days are behind her, replaced by a warm persona that offset the often solemn music, while an occasional switch to intricate acoustic guitar illuminated some hidden folk influences. Recurring technical hitches failed to detract from this welcome reminder of Williamson’s consistent, under-rated talents.
