Roy Bailey & Tony Benn – The Writing On The Wall

With a combined age of 162, this dynamic duo delivered an inspirational evening of protest songs and stirring readings telling the history of the British layman’s ongoing struggle for equality and justice. Benn may have struggled to leave his seat but he displayed a youthful passion when reading pieces from the 14th to 16th centuries on the Poll Tax protests and the early fight for women’s rights. Bailey’s songs were skilfully selected to compliment the rhetoric; many by Leon Rosselson and Robb Johnson, with a moving trio of anti-war songs to finish. Long may these old campaigners continue the fight.
