Brighton hosts its own Games – the Levelympics
Students from Varndean College and Brighton University are to take part in the Levelympics at the weekend.
People living in the area are also invited to take part in the free event – at The Level in Brighton.
It has been inspired by the Olympics and Paralympics and will take place from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday (17 March).
Those taking part will be asked to sign up for the Spots or Stripes team to take part in a range of sports including
- football
- tug of war
- table tennis
- foam javelin
- races
There will also be the a climbing tower, zumba and hula dance workshops and live music and performances.
Varndean College students have helped organise the day as part of a business studies course.
One of the students, Jesse Boxall–Steeden, said: “It’s set to be a great day. It will be good to bring something to the community and in such a fun way.”
Spots v Stripes organiser Saoirse Towler said: “This will be our 100th Spots v Stripes event in the city since we started in 2010.
“We are proud to have brought together thousands of people or all ages and backgrounds to enjoy games in their local parks and at street parties.
“It’s great to celebrate this achievement with the Levelympics as we count down to London 2012 and prepare for a further 30 events during the next few months.”
Cadbury has tied in the Spots v Stripes events with the company’s Olympic sponsorship deal.
The games on Saturday are also being supported by the Active for Life team at Brighton and Hove City Council and the Friends of The Level.
