Nanci Griffith
Warming up a virtually sold out Bexhill audience on a chilly Monday night, Nanci Griffith was on great form. The auditorium at the De La Warr is as unimposing as the fabulous building is imposing but the brilliantly understated three-piece backing band and Griffith’s hauntingly powerful voice created a powerful intimacy.
As well as new material from her 20th studio album, ‘Intersection’, Nanci’s formidable back catalogue was well represented. (‘From A Distance’, ‘Trouble In The Fields’). An encore of the rousing anthem ‘Hell No (I’m Not Alright)’ was a reminder that Griffith still effortlessly blends emotion and politics with humour and class.
