Chinese State Circus – ‘Ying & Yang’

I’m a sucker for a bit of Chinese drumming and I wasn’t left disappointed, though in truth the show was far more besides. The acts/performances came thick and fast swaying from the back-breaking acrobatics, to the elegant group balancing tricks. Mistakes happen but instead of moving on the performers persist until they give the audience a faultless routine, a trait both admirable and respectful. The traditional band looked glamorous and played beautifully. Some of the stunts were truly breathtaking and defied both belief and gravity. And yet all done with refined grace and poise, exuberant yet controlled professionalism.
