The Wave Pictures

The prolific indie trio have released an album a year since 2006 and were in town to promote their latest offering ‘Long Black Cars’. The African highlife-inspired guitar sound of last year’s ‘Little Surprise’ was still evident in several of the new songs and although many clocked in at over five minutes, none outstayed their welcome owing to the inventive soloing of frontman David Tatersall and drummer Johnny Helm, who also endeared himself with Otwayesque vocals. Helm’s brother beefed up the sound, guesting on sax, and Britain’s finest anti-folk exponents ended fittingly with a spirited Stanley Brinks cover.
