Brighton friends and family hold vigil for Connor Saunders

Friends and family of Brighton teenager Connor Saunders held a candlelit vigil for him in Rottingdean last night.

And today the 19-year-old’s uncle Jamie Denyer, speaking for the Woodingdean youngster’s family, said that his death had left a hole in their hearts.

He said that their world had come crashing in and it felt as though they would never get over the death of the popular young plasterer and footballer.

Detectives from Sussex Police were still holding two 14-year-old boys for questioning this afternoon. The pair were arrested on suspicion of murdering Connor.

A 13-year-old boy was also arrested and has been released on police bail until Tuesday 8 May.

Connor, from Downsway in Woodingdean, was punched during a fight between two groups of youths in West Street, Rottingdean, on Saturday night (14 April).

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he died the next day (Sunday 15 April).

Last night hundreds of people gathered and left tributes outside the Tesco Metro in Rottingdean where the fight happened.
