Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Maria McAteer’s Brighton boys
Maria McAteer’s Brighton boys, Peter Andre’s show, David Lloyd, Kelly Brook & Pride 2012 news
She’s graced the Latest Brighton Download Chart at www.thelatest.co.uk (the place for signed and unsigned musicians) for a while and now Brighton-based singer-songwriter Maria McAteer is set to release her debut single ‘Brighton Boy’ next month. The video for ‘Brighton Boy’ was shot on Brighton beach on a freak sunny day last month. Maria randomly asked a selection of Brightonian boys of all ages to star in the video. The city’s favourite magazine even made it into the shoot!
“I was determined to make sure that every single man who gave their time and energy to be filmed would be featured in the video, it made editing quite difficult!” The result is a quirky glance of Brighton life on a sunny day that’s bound to make you smile. ”Brighton’s Got Talent!” says Maria. “It’s time the rest of the UK had a look.”
‘Brighton Boy’ is the first song from Maria’s album, Her Night At Noon, which will be released September 2012. Maria has also worked on TV, appearing in Byker Grove, Casualty and The Bill. ‘Brighton Boy’ is released 18 May.
lloyd kicks back after Vendetta
Kemp Town illustrator David Lloyd makes a return to (very small) screens this month with the release of his book Kickback coming out as an iPad app. Lloyd first rose to fame when his graphic novel, V For Vendetta, co-written with Alan Moore, was made into a Hollywood movie staring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. Since then the mask warn by Weaving’s character in the movie has become a huge cultural icon – picked up as the mask of choice for the worldwide Occupy movement. Get your hands on Kickback from the iTunes store.
Downton’s not Flabby
It certainly won’t be a case of ‘Downton Flabby’ when Kelsey-Leigh Walker undertakes a 10km run at the stately home in aid of Parkinson’s UK. The 22 year old from Lancing is heading to Highclere Castle – home of ITV’s revered Crawley family – in order to raise a predicted £600 for the charity. The United Colours Of Pride
So Brighton and Hove’s Pride festival has finally decided on a theme – and it’s set to be a big one! After asking members of the Brighton community to vote for the theme for this year’s event, a final decision was made seeing ‘The United Colours of Pride’ take the lead over ‘Triumphs and Tragedies’.
The United Colours of Pride is an international theme that celebrates the rainbow flag, using it to raise awareness of those countries where the LGBT community still faces discrimination, giving the event a political edge and relevance in 2012 while not detracting from the carnival atmosphere and colour of the Parade. It’s great to see the Pride festival championing the LGBT movement and recognising its struggle for equality – but it will also remain as glitzy as ever! So make sure you get your tickets in advance and get thinking about those costumes – you have until 1 September.
Spotted
Kelly Brook dressed in a fluffy pink dressing gown on a wet and windy Brighton Pier last week. The star donned the towelling robe between shots for her summer fashion shoot for New Look. When the sun did break through the clouds, Kelly looked every bit the star, braving the cold weather to model a flirty summer dress complete with ice-cream cone. We loved her here in Brighton, but why she didn’t choose warmer climes for the shoot, we’ll never know!
JBPR’s Lisa on TV?
Peter Andre’s new ITV2 show has returned to our TV screens – and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for JBPR on it. As we reported a few weeks back, we helped Peter with his latest appeal for a cleaner seaside. Our very own Lisa was interviewed by the film crew about her penchant for Greek men; we only hope it makes the final cut!
