Brighton & Hove Food & Drink Festival
The Corn Exchange in Brighton hosted Brighton & Hove Live Food Show sponsored by Discover the Origin which is a campaign financed with aid from the European Union, Italy, France and Portugal to promote five key European products: Burgundy Wines, Parma Ham, Douro Wines, Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese and Port.
The Live Food Show, held over the weekend of 6–7 April, saw local restaurant chefs cooking speciality dishes which were cooked in a 40 minute demonstration. The chefs then had a five-minute challenge with food supplied by Discover the Origin. The audience then got to taste what had been cooked.
The Festival also introduced the first International Chef Exchange, with Audrey Eusson from The Beaumont in Maastricht coming to the UK to the Restaurant at Drakes.
The Big Sussex Market was held in New Road & Jubillee Square where many thousands of visitors were able to buy and sample food from all over Sussex, along with street entertainers and good weather the 10th Brighton Food Festival has been a resounding success. Look out for the Autumn Festival which will run from 7–30 September 2012.

The Martlet’s Hospice – 15th anniversary
The Martlet’s Hospice is organising a number of events over the coming months to mark its 15th anniversary. The first of these events was held on Wednesday 11 April when staff and volunteers enjoyed tea together at the hospice in Wayfield Avenue, Hove.
“The anniversary is an opportunity to acknowledge the work that has been done since we opened in 1997 and today we wanted to recognise the part that volunteers have played through their support of The Martlet’s,” said Robert Griffiths, director of fundraising at the Hospice. “Over the coming months we shall be using national initiatives such as Dying Matters Week in May and Hospice Care Week in October plus our anniversary to emphasise the vital role that hospices such as The Martlet’s play in delivering high quality care to our community. It is also important to remind everybody that since 1997, we have either cared for and/or supported well over 20,000 local people across our services and to thank all those who have supported the charity so generously in that period.”
