Nneka

Doing the musical equivalent of pat-your-head-and-rub-your-tummy, support act Abi Wade impressed with her remarkable versatility at Komedia. Wade makes it look very easy playing five different parts alone (three percussions, voice and cello) and her songs carry a grace and gravity which is just as compelling.

Nneka on the other hand decided a full band would be more appropriate. Her soulful and passionate side was laid bare as she bounced through her reggae infused songs with social injustice the primary lyrical theme. At one point she declare that her mission in music was to provide much needed “medicine to the soul”. Her impassioned delivery and a one-love philosophy unequivocally provided it.
