SOURCE New Music
Source New Music had a post-rock twist with a headline performance from Monsters Build Mean Robots. Some jovial banter with the crowd provided the most engaging part of their set which, despite some impressive musicianship, ended the evening on a tiresome note. Playing downstairs was Jacko Hooper whose acoustic balladry could have benefited from a greater variety in the tone of his songs.
Support act Written in Water stole the show with their epic experimental/shoegazey thunderstorms. Vocalist Beth Cannon is a star in the making with a terrific range and technical capability; the band were utterly entrancing to watch. All in all a successful evening of Brighton-based talent.
