Of Montreal

The Kevin Barnes carnival made a welcome return to Brighton and after a straightforward opener the party started with their trademark body-stockinged mimes throwing balloons out as the super-tight band cranked up the bpm.

The falsetto harmonies and thumping basslines combined with the space-glam riffs sounded like a glorious Sparks/Eno collaboration. ‘Bunny Ain’t No Kind Of Rider’ provided the first singalong and it was worth the ticket price just to experience the half hour encore: a disco frenzy with a shirtless Kevin going at it like Iggy Pop off his head at Studio 54. Joyful, unique and thrilling.
