Rush to the Old Market for a delightful evening of gangster-girl mayhem and double-Gay sub-text!
Dressed as a rough rent-boy, Mack-the-Knife (Jamie Saunders) snarled well and hit his high notes but his charmless menace was swamped by the quality of Weill’s music (director: Jan Winstone) and the good-nature of this slick, entertaining show, the near-naked, gold-lamé, tap-dancing Busby Berkeley routine and fabulous ‘Happy Ending’.
The Peachums (Jamie Aspden and Georgina Budd) drove the plot along beautifully as wives and policeman pined convincingly and everyone spat out their witty Brechtian rhymes with relish. Kudos to Chasity Crisp for the ‘Socrates’ song.
