Brighton man charged with Bevendean murder

A Brighton man has been charged with murder today after a stabbing early yesterday (Saturday 5 May).

Carlo Dawes, 34, of Taunton Road, Bevendean, was charged this evening (Sunday 6 May) with the murder of 37-year-old Graham Pethard from Liverpool.

Dawes has been remanded to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (Monday 7 May).

Paramedics and police were called to a flat in Taunton Road at about 5.20am yesterday but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination found that he died from extensive blood loss caused by a knife wound.

Sussex Police said earlier that officers were still searching for a weapon which they believed to be a 6in (15cm) kitchen knife.

A police cordon and scene guards remained in place in the Taunton Road area.

Detective Inspector Phil Mays said earlier: “Inquiries are continuing to establish what led up to this tragic incident.”
