Book Slam

In an intimate setting, three renowned writers recite from their latest work. Launched by brainchild, Patrick Neate, Book Slam has flourished from a small pub to a national event; now promoting its first Annual. Award-winner, Jon McGregor, began the proceedings conjuring up a dry-humoured tale of teenage angst armed with only the dictionary. An eccentric Jackie Kay followed with a risible account of an obese girl’s dietary confessions. Finally, Sapphire read from her latest novel, Kid; the long awaited sequel to Push. Bold, whimsical and amusing, the evening drew a colourful picture of the human condition at its most vulnerable.
