Acumen Business Law Commercial Property Awards
Acumen Business Law held the City’s first Commercial Property Awards sponsored by RAP Interiors from Marlborough Place in Brighton at The Grand Hotel on 26 April 2012. The awards celebrated acheivements in commercial property around Brighton and Hove. Categories included Best Refurbishment, won by Spire Healthcare & Nightingale Architects, for the Montefiore Hospital in Hove; and Best Development, won by Conran & Partners for The Astoria in Brighton.

New skills shop launches
City College Brighton and Hove launched its innovative new ‘skills shop’, City Skills & Jobs on 27 April. Green MP Caroline Lucas officially opened the shop which is designed to be a vibrant and welcoming ‘one stop shop’ to facilitate connections between employers and their potential employees. The shop, which is part-funded by ERDF via the Interreg 2seas GAPS project, will also be linked closely to Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce, Jobcentre Plus and American Express.

Hove Place relaunches
Often described as the jewel in the crown of the Golden Lion Group, Hove Place in First Avenue, Hove has relaunched as a Bistro Pub. A sleek and clean décor carries through the pub which leads downstairs through a ‘dining area’ before moving into the main bar. Body Happy
Lisa Shaw launched the Body Happy studio in March 2012. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of a traditional gym, the studio provides a private indoor space, where they can truly focus on their clients and held a launch night on 19 April to showcase what she does. The Eco Technology Show Event Launch
The Eco Technology Show event launch, held at The Tin Drum, Hove introduced the new “Smart Business” conference element to The Eco Technology Show which is to be held at The American Express Community Stadium, 15-16 June 2012.
The launch showcased a brand new Renault electric car, “Twizy” and the Tesla alongside the new Brighton designed and manufactured solar powered bikes and “Etrikes” from Boho Green.

The Rock Garden unveiled
Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins unveiled the new-look rock garden and cascade at Preston Park on Friday 27 April. The rockery has been completely renovated in a joint project between Brighton & Hove City Council parks staff, and the Friends of Preston Park.

Proud Cabaret Brighton launches
Proud Cabaret Brighton’s revamp taps into the venue’s extraordinary past: the Sassoon family’s former mausoleum. For the launch on Thursday 26 April guests were treated to live performances throughout the evening from Banbury Cross, Kiki Kaboom, Chi Chi Revolver, Adriano Fettucini and Bhagdad Idol. The night was hosted by Vicious Delicious.
