Steve Coogan to go on trial for speeding in Hove
The comedian Steve Coogan is to be tried for speeding by Brighton magistrates.
Coogan, 46, who lives in Greenways, Ovingdean, is also accused of failing to tell Sussex Police who was driving his Range Rover when a speed camera filmed it.
The speeding offence was said to have happened along the A259 – Kingsway in Hove – on Wednesday 12 October last year. The seafront road has a speed limit of 30mph.
Coogan denies the offences and is expected to give evidence at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 July. The date was set by the bench today (Thursday 10 May).
If he is convicted, he could receive six penalty points. This would result in an automatic six-month ban from driving for having 12 or more points on his licence within three years.
