The Great Escape – Trippple Nippples
The best thing about The Great Escape is discovering brilliantly eccentric obscurities you know little about, but which become ingrained in your memory. This year’s AIDS Wolf or Les Breastfeeders, then, were Tokyo catsuit-clad six-piece Trippple Nippples. Bursting on stage in a bonkers blur of Missy Elliott hip-hop, industrial metal guitar, punk screeches and tribal drumming, the music was only half the story. Somewhere between performance art and p***-take, their antics involved partial nudity, band-members stealing the audience’s drinks and, erm, half-eaten burgers being thrown at said crowd. Having lived a Manga cheese-dream, this burger-bashing victim left certain this surreally joyous act would be the year’s festival highlight.
