Proud Cabaret in £500,000 refurbishment
Proud launches its sensational local venue: Proud Cabaret Brighton
This year Proud Cabaret continues to innovate and lead the cabaret scene across the UK. 2012 sees several new initiatives undertaken to ensure that Proud is kept head and shoulders above the rest. Proud Cabaret City and Proud Cabaret Camden are now to be joined by the completely refurbished Proud Cabaret Brighton. Brighton’s £500,000 revamp taps into the venue’s extraordinary past: the Sassoon family’s former Mausoleum.
The building features a “flamboyant” trumpet-shaped copper dome, typical of the late 19th century Indo-Saracenic Revival architectural movement. They have been extremely passionate about protecting the building and dedicated to ensuring that it was lovingly restored to its former splendour while retaining all of its old world charm.
An extensive cocktail and wine list combined with glamorous décor, a decadent brass clad bar and python-skinned boothed seating definitely proves more is more! The new appearance brings a touch of exotic glamour to Brighton, offering delicious food alongside a unique burlesque, cabaret and music entertainment experience.
Proud Cabaret Brighton stormed onto the scene with an action packed press preview launch. Guests were entertained by Vicious Delicious, who introduced the live performances throughout the evening. The beautiful Banbury Cross, shining star of British Burlesque, executed her thrilling performances and touching feather fan dances. The audience was astounded by the one and only Kiki Kaboom, whose quirky and scandalous performances were not to be missed! Showgirl Chi Chi Revolver combined both magic and gymnastics to her routines and brought a truly spectacular show of glamour and talent. If that wasn’t enough, Adriano Fettucini unveiled his Boylesque show, a truly outstanding display of circus skills, cabaret and comedy with a distinctive twist. Between performances and during dinner the comedic and well-loved Bhagdad Idol continued to whip the crowd into a frenzy with her tongue in cheek variety.
Complementing the new look venue and stage show is a menu created by the hotly tipped French chef Nick Losset. Losset will guide Proud Cabaret Brighton into the UK’s top culinary league, serving up fresh, exciting and affordable food inspired by worldly ingredients. From pan-fried scallops on pea purée and crispy pancetta to mustard crusted salmon fillet on tomato jam and roasted asparagus, the menu is bursting with delicious dishes of the quality you would expect to find in a top city restaurant.
To coincide with the relaunch Proud has also put together a new season of shows at all of their glamorous venues. Proud Cabaret Brighton will be introducing a range of different events from tea dances with a twist on select Sunday afternoons to secretive masquerade balls where guests are invited to adorn themselves in the finest gowns and vintage masks to hide their identity from the other naughty suitors!
One of Proud’s most popular nights is their ‘Blitz Party’ where they make tea, not war! Travel back to Wartime England with sandbags and smoke and experience an authentic 1940’s evening like no other. Enjoy a traditional three-course menu while experiencing a show of fabulous burlesque! Having dinner with Proud enables guests to also gain free entry to the club night afterwards. Others are invited to join the party at 10.30pm for drinks, the show and dancing going on late into the night on a recently uncovered, original 200-year-old marbled dance floor!
If the venue, food and entertainment aren’t enough, Proud has fully revamped its own double decker bus‚ its Proud Cabaret Bus! Step aboard and be whisked away from the Brighton seafront on a journey of glamour and intrigue before being delivered to your final stop: Proud Cabaret Brighton!
“This refurbishment is part of a continued passion and desire to bring the best food, entertainment and talent to the discerning crowds that visit Proud,” says Alex Proud, director of Proud Group. “It’s the latest in many initiatives we’ve undertaken to keep Proud head and shoulders above the rest. We have plans to make 2012 another stellar year for Proud Group with the aim to open a restaurant in the West End and a dive bar New York. Watch this space!”
