The Great Escape – Throne + IO Echo + PAWS

A half-empty, cavernous Green Door Store seemed the perfect venue for this alternative rock line-up. Kicking off the night, young stoner trio Throne played well to the shadowy scene with their enjoyable, if unoriginal riff on Sabbath erm, riffs, providing some much-needed oomph following the afternoon’s snoozefest elsewhere. LA alt-rockers IO Echo recalled The Smashing Pumpkins at their most soulful or a more flamboyant Jesus and Mary Chain, providing the churning guitar hiss and passionate vocals needed for the more emotive not-quite pop-rock sound. Going the whole hog, sub-standard Feeder-lite (if that’s possible) Glasgow grungers PAWS proved a likeable, if entirely derivative, addition to this varied bill.
