Brighton boy, 14, sent for trial over death of Connor Saunders

The 14-year-old Brighton boy charged with killing Woodingdean teenager Connor Saunders has been sent for trial at the crown court.

The boy will be tried for manslaughter having been accused of punching 19-year-old Connor, a plasterer and footballer, from Downsway in Woodingdean.

Connor was punched in West Street, Rottingdean, on Saturday 14 April and died the next day at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The 14-year-old boy, whose identity is protected by law, was remanded on bail by Brighton magistrates today (Tuesday 15 May). He is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Friday 25 May for a plea and case management hearing.

He was one of three schoolboys arrested over the incident by Sussex Police. Two others – a 13-year-old and another 14-year-old – were told last Wednesday (9 May) that they face no further action.
