Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Moshi Moshi skip causes a stir

Rizzle Kicks visit children’s hospital, Moshi Moshi skip causes a stir & Adele isn’t getting married

Teen spirit
Teenagers being treated at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital enjoyed a surprise visit from Rizzle Kicks on Sunday 29 April. The Brighton hip-hop duo, Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule, both 20, put their support behind children’s charity Rockinghorse by officially opening its new adolescent rooms at the hospital. The project, which cost £8,250, included the refurbishment of three rooms with comfortable sofas and chairs, DVD players, table football, game consoles, and a pool table.
Children and young people played on the equipment with Rizzle Kicks, before the famous pair went on to meet and have their photos taken with other children staying on the wards.

Jordan said: “It’s important to have a space to be away from medical procedures, especially if you’re young and in hospital. It was really cool to meet some of the children here – they were all lovely.”

adele rumours false
Adele ignited rumours that she was ready to get married to her Brighton beau Simon Konecki when she wore a big sparkler to the Brit Awards in February. However, she took to Twitter on her birthday to finally squash the rumour, along with a few others circulating online. “Had a lovely birthday,” Adele commented before assuring us; “I didn’t get a cake from Rih Rih & I’m not engaged, blah blah.” Adele has been dating Brighton local Konecki since being introduced to each other last year by none other than ginger-haired crooner Ed Sheeran. It looks like we shouldn’t be holding our breath for a seaside wedding anytime soon. Having said that, there’s probably no harm in indulging in a hat, just in case.

junk art
A Brighton art installation hit the headlines last week when artist David Batchelor unveiled his latest work ‘Skip’ outside Moshi Moshi as part of Brighton Festival. Quickly snapped by national newspapers including The Mirror and The Daily Mail, Batchelor’s piece soon caused a very public divide over whether this was truly art, or just (literally) a load of rubbish. The skip, adorned with a neon yellow rim, is hoped to provoke opinion and to make people ‘stop and think’ according to show curators, and it certainly has!

Children’s laureate
I love the city during the Brighton Festival but I especially love the 26 Letters children’s events (programmed by the lovely Hilary Cooke). Last week I took my family to see Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson’s show at The Dome. The Gruffalo author was on great form, joined on stage by the illustrator of many of her books Lydia Monks, her husband Malcolm and two great-nieces Lola and Amelie for what was just a brilliant family show. Great start to the Festival!
