Hangover Square & The Life & Work of Patrick Hamilton
The re-creation of two scenes from Hamilton’s book is excellent, the atmosphere oppressive and the detailing immaculate. For anyone who has read the novel it makes for a chilling experience, and for some of us, the look is all to familiar as a piece of our domestic history. The talk was equally enlightening. Chaired by Peter Guttering, he kept his questions pithy and left the talking to Hamilton’s biographer Nigel Jones, a man with a remarkable knowledge of the writer’s life and his works, and Laura Wilson who is clearly a huge fan, fascinated by his talent and the life he led. Combined it made for a massively entertaining evening with far more a sense of documentary than literary chat. I left wanting to re-read what I already know and read what I had missed.
