Review: Nick Pynn with Kate Daisy Grant
Spread out on the floor of The Old Market, the stage resembled a mad inventor’s lab, the home of amiable musician for hire Nick Pynn. The front end of the show was devoted to Pynn’s compositions, our host combining loops of fiddle, dulcimer, glass harp and guitar to delicate effect. Kate Daisy Grant led the second half, her moving, sometimes humorous, songs accompanied by junkyard percussionist Ken Rose, cellist Hannah Marshall and fellow toy piano enthusiast Pynn himself. Grant and Pynn’s mutual admiration was shared by the crowd, their rambling introductions and sparkling music making for a lively evening’s entertainment.
