Lilies or The Revival of a Romantic Drama
It’s 1962 and Bishop Bilodeau finds himself confronted in a prison by his old schoolfriend Simon Doucet, who forces the clergyman to confront their past, with the help of his inmates performing the events of 1912. Doucet is determined to find out why he has been unfairly incarcerated for the last 40 years. This play of gay love against the odds in a small Canadian town had an air of Brokeback Mountain about it. The performances were solid, by an experienced cast and, while moving, the play didn’t quite ignite the intense passions that were obviously intended by Michel Marc Bouchard’s writing.
