Fishy teachers take lesson at Brighton infant school

Children at a Brighton infant school have had a day of lessons about fish.

The youngsters at Stanford Infant School, in Highcroft Villas, Brighton, along with their parents were shown how to cook fish and seafood. And they got to eat their work.

They were taught by two people involved in running Fishy Fishy, the restaurant in East Street, Brighton, which is co-owned by Dermot O’Leary, presenter of The X Factor on ITV.

The restaurant’s head chef Loz Tallent and co-owner James Ginzler helped cook up interest among the schoolchildren as part of a regional campaign called Fish is the Dish.

The campaign is being run by Seafish, a national quango, to encourage people to cook and eat more fish at home.

Staff from Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales, which has a shop at the Hove end of Shoreham Harbour, were on hand to talk through the different types of fish available locally.

Next week children and parents at the school will be encouraged to take part in Walk to School Week.
