The Skatalites

76-year-old last original member Lester Sterling brought the latest incarnation of young (and not so young) Turks to town and proved their tradition of jazz-infused ska was in rude health. Playing through their Studio One catalogue, their sound was often more 60’s Blue Note than Blue Beat but given the band’s prowess this was no bad thing. Long-serving vocalist Doreen Shaffer joined for perennial favourite ‘My Boy Lollipop’ and performed with the energy of a teenager. Closing a joyful set with signature tune ‘Guns Of Navarone’, featuring skilful solos from all. The original and still the best.
