Matt Whistler prepares the World’s longest joke

Well, it’s the time of year to set up the beach catapult, brace yourself, put your back into it and ping yourself into the chaos theory. On your marks, get set, go! Yes, we are now in the thick of the Brighton Festival – it’s a hotchpotch of performance, theatrical prose and comedy and if all this is too much pressure, you can dive into the Artists Open Houses to talk about art and time the conversation around three cup cakes and a cup of tea.

What have I got lined up? Thanks for asking. Well, it’s the …wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it… World’s Longest Joke, with the following format: The Set Up, The Act, and The Punchline. It takes one hour.
It’s one element of my one-hour touring show, Matt Whistler’s Trip Out,developed into another hour, Confused? You will be. The joke will also contravene every health and safety rule and the audience needs to wear fire retardant clothing and bring weaponry. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but I had to think of something to get you along to The Bees Mouth on 27 May at 11 pm.

It’s the very last show of the festival, so when you are crawling back to your abode come to the entrance and a stretcher will be provided to take you to a lovely intimate basement. So put this date in your Gmail diary now with scissors and sellotape: 27 May, 11pm, Bees Mouth. OVER AND OUT, WILCO ROGER.
