Organ Recital, John Burdett
This well balanced recital began most elegantly with Bach’s ‘Fantasia’ in G BWV:572, followed by five light ‘Pieces for a Musical Clock’ by Haydn. Two Choral Preludes by Flor Peeters then revived the dignified mood, contrasting well with the almost fey ‘Scherzo’ in G by Enrico Bossi. More meditative music followed with Whitlock’s ‘Folk Tune & Andante Tranquillo’. The programme ended with Boëllmann’s triumphant ‘Suite Gothique’ which is almost a concert in itself. This grand work really shows off the splendour of this organ, filling the vast church as no other instrument can, and probably the small piazza outside!
