This week: outgoing Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Anne
“It has been incredible, a truly memorable and enjoyable year, and an experience I will never forget. I have attended all sorts of events all over the city – over seven hundred in all – and everywhere people have been so kind and welcoming to me. I’ve always known we have a very robust community but I have been overwhelmed to see how many volunteers we have working with us. I made a point of inviting all the volunteers to thank them personally for their wonderful work as without them the city would be a dreary place. It’s been a great treat and honour, and I hope my successor has the same sense of fufilment over the coming year.”
Outgoing Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Anne Meadows, who was the city’s first Labour mayor, will remove her chain of office for the last time at the May council meeting, after a year dedicated to her special interest, bringing deprived communities closer together. Born and raised in Bevendean, where she still lives, she attended local schools, and is also celebrating 30 years of marriage to her husband Tony. The next Mayor, Bill Randall, will be our first Green Mayor.
