Cirque Du Ciel – ShangHi
Imagine if the Chinese State Circus (with all its traditional dress, culture and strict rehearsal regime) defected en mass and landed in a Western metropolis. The all-seeing Politburo no longer a factor and the imperial shackles thrown aside. That is Cirque Du Ciel. Juggling, acrobatics, aerial silks all mixed in with some Westernised street dancing/attitude and the freedom of expression in their chosen skill. At times breathtaking, at others awe-inspiring. All punctuated with a traditional Chinese drummer/percussionist (although in truth his stage positioning did cause issues for audience viewing). A great showcase of talent.
