The Boat Project – The Ship’s Log
Given his track record of nautical ditties, Thirty Pounds Of Bone’s Johny Lamb was the obvious choice to chronicle in song the maiden voyage of this ambitious endeavour. Recruiting a band of local talent, including The White Brothers, it was Mary Hampton’s beguiling voice that prefaced the performance with a short opening set. With Mark Beatty’s lolling bass completing the ensemble, and the harmonium’s drone in support throughout, the mix of traditional boating songs combined with pieces written for, and on, the ongoing journey made for an enchanting evening that belied the fact this was put together with only two days rehearsal.
