With his distinctive voice ringing out on the dramatic openers; based on old photographs, Peter Wilson made sure this was to be a tour finale to remember. Joined by top jazzer Mark Edwards on keys and long-time drummer Phil Wilkinson, this almost two-hour set included Ruby Murray torch songs, music hall whimsy on ‘Wanda’ and a quietly epic ‘Condition’. With shades of 70’s Elton apparent on the ballads and a Ben Folds feel to several of the big ensemble numbers, this was nonetheless a singular exhibition of one man’s talented execution of a repertoire created from the most diverse inspirations.
