Woman suffers cuts and bruises in Hove robbery attempt

Two men tried to rob a woman as she walked along a road in Hove.

They tried to steal her handbag as the 31-year-old woman walked up Somerhill Road at about 11pm on Wednesday 30 May.

A man standing by the entrance to St Ann’s Well Gardens asked he for a light.

He grabbed her bag and tried to force it off her shoulder.

She fell to the floor and was dragged into the entrance of the park.

She screamed and her attacker ran off into the park.

She ran out into Somerhill Road screaming for help when another man grabbed her from behind and also tried to take her bag and ended up dragging her along the pavement.

The first man was described as a 25 to 30-year-old Asian with a mohican style haircut. The second man was also Asian, aged about 20 to 25 years old and with dark hair.

A police spokesman said: “As a result of the two attacks, the victim received bruising and cuts to her legs and arms.

“She screamed for help and we would like to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious or recognises the descriptions of the two offenders.”

Anyone witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101.
