A truly amazing setting for these fabulous outdoor concerts…

Popular piano maestro Jools Holland is returning to the picturesque grounds of Borde Hill Garden this month for a night of pure boogie-woogie.

The host of Later will be on stage on Saturday 30 June with his 17-piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and special guests Marc Almond and Ruby Turner.

The Rhythm & Blues Orchestra has evolved from the initial seeds in 1987 when Jools and his drummer Gilson Lavis began touring as a duo known as ‘The Jools Holland Big Band’, into a disciplined 18-piece band capable of selling out all year all over Britain and Europe – from Canterbury Cathedral and Kew Gardens to the Glastonbury Festival – and filling the Albert Hall each Christmas in what has become an annual ritual.

Jools and the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra play to audiences in excess of 200,000 each year.

Having filmed over 220 shows, Later..With Jools has become one of the top draw television music programmes and has assisted many bands to higher profiles.

This concert is picnic-style with no seating or cover provided so bring your own seating, rugs, cushions and your picnics. There will be a bar and catering outlets on site.

Gates open at 5.00pm with the music commencing from 6.30pm. Jools hits the stage with the band around 8.30pm.

The popular Proms night at Borde Hill Garden is set to return this summer with the evening commencing with an aerial display by a Spitfire that saw action in WWII.

The Jubilee Spitfire Proms on Sunday 1 July will start with the Mark IX ‘Grace’ Spitfire flying overhead as the National Symphony Orchestra perform a selection of appropriate music including Edward Elgar’s’ ‘Nimrod’.

The plane, which has performed above the picturesque Borde Hill gardens in three previous occasions, is flown by the world’s only female Spitfire pilot, Carolyn Grace. Her exciting displays have won many fans with some travelling great distances to see the rare two-seater Spitfire in flight.

Following her 10-minute display The National Symphony Orchestra will present a two hour concert of favourites from many including Handel, Bizet, Vivaldi, and Strauss, film music from ‘Bridge Over The River Kwai’, ‘The Mission’ and ‘Dambusters’, ending with the much-loved style of ‘Last Night of the Proms’.

The NSO will also be joined by violin soloist Gareth Johnson, making a rare appearance from his native USA, and English soprano Abigail Iveson who will perform two solos with the orchestra in the first half and lead the flag-waving finale.
