Brighton Fashion Week, Boccia Finals, Games for the Guides, Bentcousin play the pier and Open Houses Awards


Launch of Brighton Fashion Week 2012
May 28th saw the official launch of Brighton Fashion Week 2012, at Create Studios in New England House. This year Fashion Week is set to impress, with fabulous shows, fresh faces and more innovative design. The venue was themed by the Complete Chillout Company, with luxurious and unusual marquee linings, giving a unique and exotic glamour to the evening. Bentcousin at Meadowlands
Brighton based band, Bentcousin, won the Meadowlands Grassroots competition and played a spot at the Meadowlands Festival last weekend. To celebrate their victory, on Saturday 26th May, they performed one of their songs on Brighton beach near Brighton Pier. Over 30 unsigned bands and musicians entered the Meadowlands competition, Bentcousin received nearly 1,000 votes from the public. For more info: www.meadowlandsfestival.com

Guides Monopoly Challenge
On Saturday 26th May over 100 local girl guides took part in a fantastic challenge which tested their problem solving, team work and time management skills. The girls had five hours and only the use of local buses to get round 23 locations on an adapted Brighton and Hove monopoly board. The ‘properties’ included Roedean, Brighton Pier, the Grand Hotel, Pavilion, Sussex Cricket round, the lagoon and Heart FM. Some of the girls were lucky enough to run into Lynsey from the breakfast show while they were at the radio station.

Boccia Finals
The finals for the Active for Life Brighton Boccia Tournament took place on Tuesday 29th May at The Manor Gym, Manor Road , Brighton. Boccia is included in the Paralympics and is similar to boules or petanque (or indoor bowls), but played from a sitting position.
