Brighton and Hove council chief confirms departure

The City of London elected Brighton and Hove City Council chief executive John Barradell this afternoon.

He will leave Brighton and Hove in September to take up his new post as town clerk and chief executive of the City of London Corporation.

He said: “This is a truly unique opportunity to manage an organisation which is steeped in history at the heart of London and the nation.

“It is an opportunity to work in a place which generates and drives an enormous slice of the UK economy and takes a lead in supporting and promoting London as the centre for world-leading financial services and related business.”

Council leader Jason Kitcat said: “John has made an enormous contribution to Brighton and Hove.

“He has played a major role in developing the council’s culture and services to be more modern and efficient.

“He has ably supported our new administration while also celebrating the city’s achievements and diversity.

“I wish him all the best in his new role.”
