Hove school building damaged as storm fells tree

A fallen tree has damaged a building at a Hove school.

Lessons are continuing as usual – but in other classrooms – after the tree blew down in high winds overnight at Cardinal Newman Catholic School in The Upper Drive.

A structural engineer has been on site inspecting the damage to the roof and tree surgeons are at work.

The school, which was rated good by Ofsted this month, is holding a summer concert at 7pm next Wednesday (27 June) in The Chapel.

The concert, which features a touring ensemble as well as performances by pupils, is free. A collection will be held to raise money for the Mary’s Meals charity.

The overnight storms also led to Queen’s Road in Brighton being temporarily closed after a hoarding was blown into the road.
