The Imagined Village

Every great band needs a rock solid foundation, and the first few strokes of new drummer Jem Lynch’s sticks confirmed that The Imagined Village would have no trouble following the exuberant Raghu Dixit, who had his audience both eating from his hand and dancing in the aisles. Coalescing around Martin and Eliza Carthy, The Village are a ten-piece collective who re-imagine English folk tradition with multiple voices, electronic and acoustic, from the melange of multi-culturalism that characterises English music. From the opening bars of ‘The Captain’s Apprentice’ to the closing notes of ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’, it worked. Quite brilliantly.
