CelebCity with Jo Brooks: Sussex band to play the Olympics
New celebrity vet surgery, Rihanna works with Brighton DJ and Sussex band to play the Olympics
vet rescue
Zoe Ball and TV’s Marc the Vet came together to open a brand new vet’s practice in Southwick last week. Marc will be at the new surgery’s helm, which boasts such privileges as an animal operating theatre
and a cat only waiting room. Whilst enjoying a barbecue and allowing their canine friends to enjoy a doggy ice-cream parlour, Marc and Zoe posed for the camera and snuggled up to some four-legged cuties.
talk that talk
Rihanna has returned to British soil after taking time out Stateside and first stop sees her meeting up with Brighton producer Burns. The up-and-coming DJ is set to help the ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ get some new tracks down in between playing gigs in Hackney, London, and around the UK. If it’s good enough for the ‘Princess of China’, its good enough for us.
sussex band to play Hyde Park
Congratulations to local student band Red Butler who have been picked to play as part of this year’s Olympics. As part of an initiative to include student musicians in the gig, the ‘blues/rock group’ were selected from a group of ten other music colleges to play at the Hyde Park concert. Made up of guitarist, Alex Butler from Uckfield, drummer Charlie Simpson from Framfield, singer Jane Pearce, 22, from Brighton and bass player, Steve Eveleigh from Eastbourne – we predict big things from here.
best of british
Football legend Jimmy Greaves and Olympic Gold Medal swimmer, Duncan Goodhew MBE, will be the celebrity guest speakers at the annual Best of British luncheon in Brighton on Friday 6 July 2012. The brainchild of Brighton businessman and winner of last year’s Outstanding Brightonian Award, Ryan Heal, ‘Best of British’ is a sports-themed lunch for Brighton businesses, held at The Grand Hotel. Over the past four years, the event has welcomed such illustrious speakers as football legend, Sir Geoff Hurst, and renowned boxer, Frank Bruno. All proceeds go to Chestnut Tree House, the children’s hospice for Sussex.
partridge returns
Back of the net! Alan Partridge is back on our screens via Sky Atlantic.
The ever so slightly egotistical creation of local comedian Steve Coogan is back after ten years and it’s better than ever. Now we want a full length series and a film please.
building in the deep
So the Brighton home rumoured to be bought by singing sensation Adele looks as if its getting a bit of a makeover. Extensive building work has been reported at the site suggesting that the Grammy-award winner is pimping out her seaside pad. Let’s hope her philanthropic boyfriend remembers charity begins at home.
josie wants to move
Our friend and Big Brother winner, Josie Gibson, is coming to live by the seaside; “It’s all change for the Gibbo this week – I’ve come to a big decision”, Josie 27, wrote in her weekly Now magazine column.“See, I went to Brighton to watch Fatboy Slim the other day and I’ve decided me and Lukey need to sell up in Bristol, buy in Brighton, befriend Norm and Zoe Ball and become yuppies. I shouldn’t have too many problems masquerading in the middle classes, should I? Might have to watch my sweary gob but other than that I reckon I’ll be just fine. I can start making hummus and juicing stuff.” We cant wait for Josie to join us on the sunny (well nearly) south coast.
Spotted!
Frankie Cocozza watch continues as we saw the floppy haired local continue his tour of Brighton pubs. Decked out in England kit, the one-time celeb seemed to be wandering along the North Laine looking for a place to cheer the team on.
