Sexual health experts get together in Brighton
The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) held its spring meeting at the Dome in Brighton last week (Wednesday 27 June to Friday 29 June).
The meeting was a joint conference with the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association.
BASHH president Janet Wilson said that the three previous joint meetings had been held in places beginning with B – Baltimore, Bath and Brooklyn.
She said: “It was not the name that made Brighton the obvious choice but the fact that it is a vibrant seaside city with beautiful historic buildings and it has one of the most dynamic and respected STI and HIV departments in the UK.”
Several of them took part in the conference which included guest lectures, oral sessions and workshops for members. There was also a meeting of the Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) course directors.
Daniel Richardson, a consultant at the Claude Nicol Centre in Brighton, helped to organise the conference. The Claude Nicol Centre is run by Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Other local contributions came from fellow Claude Nicol consultants Duncan Churchill, Gillian Dean, Martin Fisher, Yvonne Gilleece and Suneeta Soni as well as Jackie Cassell, a Brighton and Sussex Medical School professor.
