Support for Latest TV grows
Brighton Lights, camera, action: Sussex businesses support Brighton’s terrestrial TV station
Over 100 Sussex business leaders lent their support to Latest TV, Brighton’s proposed new terrestrial TV station, at an event held at Latest MusicBar in Kemp Town on Tuesday 3 July.
“The good news is that it’s not a dream – Brighton will have its own TV channel! Look out Channel 4, we’re coming!” said Bill Smith, managing director of the Latest Group of companies, as part of a presentation which included some of the city’s top creative talent.
Said Angi Mariani, business development director of the Latest Group: “Our content will include local news, sport, the arts, culture, politics, homes and people – and we will also be working with top local companies, such as Baby Cow, BTV and others to develop new programmes which we can broadcast locally and sell nationally and internationally.”
Latest TV has led the successful bid for a city tv license, gathering unanimous cross-party support from local MPs, the city council, Juice FM, Wired Sussex and the business community and Brighton and Hove is now on the shortlist among 20 much larger cities in the UK, including London, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham.
“We have huge television talent in this city, the business plan and the political support to make this happen – there’s amazing talent in the city and we’re going to make great TV” – Bill Smith.
Latest Homes / Latest 7 is the largest weekly city magazine in Europe, produced in Brighton and read by 100,000 people and it has produced the hit online TV show, Brighton Lights, for the past two years, presented by Val Aviv, who compered the evening’s presentation.
Speakers included Phelim McCafferty, deputy leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, James Carroll, MD of Touch Fantastic and Paula Seager, MD of Natural PR, with a warm up act from the ‘world’s oldest comedienne’, Lynn Ruth Miller.
The TV station, which hopes to go live next year, is offering just 200 businesses the opportunity to partner the channel during its first year. Those wishing to support the channel are encouraged to contact Angi Mariani on 01273 818150 ext. 120 or angi@thelatest.co.uk
