Brighton youngsters transform community garden

Students at City College Brighton and Hove have helped transform a community food garden.

The youngsters gave Bevendean Community Garden a makeover as part of City College’s Prince’s Trust Team Programme.

They created a path, trimmed the entire garden, designed and built a bench for the garden’s wildlife area and painted the community garden’s sign.

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a 12-week personal development course to help unemployed young people gain the skills and confidence to move into work or training.

The team working on the community garden were based at the Whitehawk Inn.

Garden project manager Jeanette Thyrsson said: “Their work has had a really positive impact on the garden and I’m extremely thankful for all the hard work that’s gone into giving us such an impressive makeover.”

Simon Vincent, City College’s Prince’s Trust co-ordinator, said: “The team really got stuck into the tasks of planning, digging, cutting and painting on this project.

“So much has been created in such a short time and the team have worked to a very high standard, making this garden an even better place for the community to use.”
