Events: People’s Day
Brighton & Hove’s different communities come together to celebrate the city’s rich diversity
The festival that celebrates the cultural diversity of Brighton & Hove is back, and is bursting with family fun with music, dance, sport and fantastic food from around the world.
This year’s event takes place just ahead of the city’s Olympic Torch relay, which is due to reach Brighton on 16 July. The festival’s entertainment will be spread across nine different themed zones and include individual stalls run by community groups and volunteers. The themes are Performance, Digital, Play, Health and Wellbeing, Eco, Exhibition and History, Food, Craft and Relaxation.
Over 50 community groups from across the city are involved in this year’s event with support from Black Minority Ethnic Community partnership, Brighton & Hove Black History, Brighton & Hove Muslim forum, Mediterranean Resources Network and Federation of Disabled people.
There are plenty of hands-on activities for all age groups, from crafts and sports to electronic gaming. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about healthy living, uncover the history and culture of Brighton, and get a chance to relax and unwind.
Other festival highlights include live rock music by The Mojo Fins, African drumming and dance workshops, Chinese brush painting, table tennis and penalty shoot out games with local football teams.
