The Black Twig Pickers
You couldn’t wish for a more authentic start to an evening of traditional mountain music than the sight of new third Sally Morgan dancing in cowboy boots while the chaps played fiddlesticks. Their own numbers sounded as old as the hills while the handed-down songs came with their own provenance, making this a hoedown and history lesson rolled into one. An interesting departure saw Nathan play an Indo-Blues solo; transforming his banjo into a sitar, before a reluctant few were persuaded to partake in a down-home square dance. The only thing missing was a slug of moonshine and a pouch of chewing tobacco.
