A Regular Royal Prom, The Brighton Chamber Choir

Jane Money (conductor) kept Handel’s four Coronation Anthems steady so that the florid Alleluias never sounded panicked in St Michael’s lofty acoustic. The high roof did steal some of the sound but blended it well so that the choir sounded twice the size, just a bit farther away.

We also heard some splendidly pompous Parry, Paul Mealor’s “Ubi caritas” from last year’s royal wedding, celestial Mozart featuring Tilly Kearey (soprano), atmospheric Delius with Anthony Hawgood (tenor) and “Vertue” by Peter Lawson (a retiring choir member). It climaxed with Gilbert & Sullivan and all the fun of Last Night sing-along numbers.
