This week: Laura Waters, curator, & Helen Mears, keeper of world art

“World Stories: Young Voices is an exciting new gallery at Brighton Museum created by young people from Whitehawk Art Group, Art In Mind, Refugee and Asylum Seekers and Patcham High School, exhibiting material from around the world both historic and contemporary. It gives the opportunity to interact, get hands on and to touch and try things out. There is also a football section, Albion In The Community, with the experiences of young players from all over the world.”

Laura Waters and Helen Mears working at World Stories: Young Voices at Brighton Museum, which was developed in collaboration with young people assisting with the research and interpretation of objects. The new gallery includes pieces from the Americas, Africa, Asia, and exciting new commissions including films and contemporary artworks. Brighton Museum holds one of only six ethnographic collections in England, ranging from items that are several thousand years old to contemporary artefacts. The new exhibition is open to the public every week from Tuesday until Sunday.
