Brighton park given makeover by Prince’s Trust team

Youngsters on a Prince’s Trust programme have helped transform the rose garden in Preston Park.

The young people were taking part in the trust’s Team programme through City College Brighton and Hove.

They weeded and tidied up the rose garden as part of a project organised by the trust, the college and Cityparks, the parks and gardens department of Brighton and Hove City Council.

Prince’s Trust project co-ordinator Christina Voakes said: “It was a massive task to take on but all the team worked incredibly hard and the rose beds were totally transformed by the time they’d finished.

“The project was a big success and we’ve one team member who enjoyed his time at Preston Park so much, he’s going back for a two-week work placement.”

Cityparks’ north operations manager Alan Griffiths said: “In this difficult year after months of rain Preston Park Rose Garden was in danger of being taken over by weeds.

“But with the help from the Prince’s Trust team, Cityparks can now move on and maintain the garden as normal.

“The team really made a difference in the short time they were there and deserve a massive thank you.”

The Prince’s Trust Team programme is a 12-week personal development course which helps unemployed young people gain the skills and confidence to move into work or training.
